You are holding in your hand a curriculum which was written with you in mind. This is not just any curriculum. It is a work of love, compassion, dedication, long-suffering and patience designed for you. In the early summer of 2014, the founder of Children of the Sun (Kyna Clemons) and myself sat poolside working as our children played. We began to put together a curriculum where the truth of our history would be exemplified. We recognized throughout the years of homeschooling that our children were not woven into the intricate fabric of popular homeschool curriculum. As parents, we lacked culturally relevant curriculum which highlighted the importance of our existence. We sought to find curriculum available that accurately portrayed our history and culture. Yet, as the years went by there was no complete curriculum which empowered our children. Therefore, leaving us with no cause to celebrate. The truth of our culture and the contribution of our existence was usually purposefully written out. We also wrestled with the inaccuracies of our history falsely starting at slavery and early Egyptian history being separated from the continent of Africa.
Thanks to the sacrifice of Baba George, Mama Kyna Clemons and the entire Clemons family, we now have a curriculum for our children which celebrates us. Mama Kyna has poured her heart and soul into this curriculum. Children of the Sun is complete and entire and your family will be blessed. As you work through every lesson with your children you will recognize how this culturally relevant African centered textbook will increasingly help to dismantle all the false narratives of our history. Now is the time for our children to excel!
